Our Mission and Beliefs

Our Mission
The mission of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Cleveland, Tennessee is to bring glory to God by worshiping God as our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer; by lifting up Christ and the Church by proclaiming God’s redeeming love for all; by encouraging people to live a life of commitment and obedience to God as disciples of Jesus Christ; by serving each other and our community as evidence of God’s redeeming love for all.

Our Beliefs

Our welcoming sanctuary

The basic beliefs of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church are summarized in the Apostles’ Creed, which we say as a congregation each Sunday as we gather to worship. We stand together and say what we believe by reciting the following:

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic (Universal) Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the dead, and life everlasting. Amen.

A more detailed statement of our beliefs is found in the Confession of Faith. If you would like to receive a copy of this classic statement of faith, please contact our office, and we will be glad to send you a copy.
